This tribe currently seems to have no moderator.
This is not a good thing, especially with a topic that can get emotional, and posts could get inappropriate.
If nobody else wants the role to be a moderator, I will happily do this in a non-combative way, ensuring there is appropriate respect to all members of the tribe while ensuring no (relevant) viewpoint is suppressed.
As a reference of my ability, I am the moderator of other "hot topic" tribe such as:
• Conflict Diamonds tribes.tribe.net/conflictdiamonds
against slavery and human right violations in Africa, in the mining of diamonds
• Inactivism intactivism.tribe.net
against male circumcision as standard practice in the USA, and to enable parents to understand facts vs myths
and I feel these tribes are fairly stable and respectful. I moderate other tribes (see my profile, scroll almost to the end).
I generally log into tribe daily (if not more often), so moderation will not become inactive.
But... I am a guy, you may feel the topic of abortion debate may be more appropriate for a women to moderate this tribe, and if you feel that, then please can someone step up, but I'd like to remind you that moderation of a tribe is not to subvert nor control the topics posted, but to ensure discussions keep a level of respect with everyone here, and to remove posts (and maybe even members) who disrespect the freedom of speech and debate, eg when people post insults of others, and not discuss the topic at hand.
Also moderation means to remove spam/irrelevant postings too. So maybe being female is not really a prerequisite, but I respect the consensus of the group.
If you feel I'd be acceptable to moderate this tribe, please reply here and say so.
When we have enough agreement, tribe staff can be contacted so we have a moderator.
Thanks.

Re: No moderator?
Mon, February 11, 2008 - 5:40 PMPersonally BryTee, I hate moderators. Most are liberal and will censor anyone they don't like. If things get out of hand on a free tribe we can always contact TOU. In most cases, it is not necessary though. -

Re: No moderator?
Mon, February 11, 2008 - 9:50 PMYes, I agree, there are some bad moderators (I'm not sure I'd use the term "liberal" though, quite the opposite, I'd use the term "facist" for the bad ones I encountered) who fall into the trap of censoring what they don't like and running their tribe like a dictatorship, as opposed to being objective and respecting others opinions - even if they don't agree with it.
I feel everyone has the right to their opinions, even if they are not mine, but "respect" is the importance here, I feel nobody should insult, berate, or intimidate anyone else, allowing all to have their viewpoint.
Maybe my experience of liberal people has been different to yours.
I find a liberal person, if on the extreme end of things, can be too easy going, and will not step in when it's necessary.
But on moderation of tribes, I believe the tribe staff are already overstretched just maintaining the systems, and need moderators to do this role. I believe if we had a situation and made a request to TOU people, it'd be quite a while before anyone would have the time to deal with our situation. I'm offering to be able to deal with whatever situation there might be, within a few hours, in a respectful and fair way.

Re: No moderator?
Sat, April 19, 2008 - 3:43 PMUuh Jeff, BryTee,
Dan is a fundamentalist Christian who is going to continue to post his spew here so either be the moderator & ban him or let him ruin this tribe like he has every other tribe he has been a member of. -

Re: No moderator?
Sat, April 19, 2008 - 6:36 PMWhat you need to understand about Chopper is that he is christmything atheist who is stuck in an endless loop on the subject of the evils of Islam. He spams everywhere he posts with the same unoriginal garbage and then has the audacity to criticize me. He really has nothing original to say and what you are reading here is one of the rare occurances when he actually states something in his own words. The rationale of banning folks with whom we disagree or find repulsive escapes me. Therefore I don't recommend that we ban Chopper, rather just ignore him going forward. This is, after all, a forum for debate, not for consensus. -

Sat, April 19, 2008 - 6:37 PMbtw, I am not a fundamentalist Christian, I am an evangelical. I realize of course that you would not know the difference. -

Re: No moderator?
Mon, April 28, 2008 - 12:26 PMBryTee - for the love of life please take the mod spot. Do *NOT* let Dan have it as he is nuts. And from Jeffs most recent comment I'm unsure of him now too. -

Re: No moderator?
Mon, April 28, 2008 - 12:29 PMfrom the thread, 'Abortion is a racist, genocidal act'
Jeff "Dude, there are only two types of people here: psycho fundamentalist monotheists, and unrepentant baby murderer apologists. Choose sides quick, your soul may depend on it."
Not a lot of difference between Jeff and Dan here. -
